In a technology-driven economy, universities must stay ahead of the curve in the fields of computer sciences and engineering to not only attract the most talented students, but to also properly prepare them for the competitive job market. Completed in 2014, the University of Illinois’ Electrical and Computer Engineering Building designed by SmithGroup is a self-contained academic environment which features offices, conference rooms and 20 computer labs.

The primary objective for the ECE building was to create a facility that would not only feature the latest technology and contemporary design, but one that fosters high-tech learning and collaboration among students and staff. The LEED Platinum certified facility truly lives up to its standards through its high efficiency standards and sustainable design. An array of solar panels planned for the building’s rooftop not only help contribute to its energy consumption, but it’ll also serve as a hands-on learning tool for technology students.
