Part of SmithGroup’s Washington DC office, Su proclaims an affinity for mentoring. “I spend most of my day teaching and working with young architects to help them advance their careers and achieve their dreams,” says Su. She certainly provides a good role model. Su was one of the recipients of the Beverly Willis Architecture Foundation’s “Built By Women” program, for her leadership role modernizing two historic structures at the Catholic University of America. Fittingly, Su lists Hidden Figures, the account of African-American female mathematicians who worked for NASA in the early 1960s, as one of her favorite films. “Intelligence and hard work is the key to success!” she notes. In her free time, Su enjoys getting out in her garden. “Gardening is my other passion besides architecture,” she says. “I am waiting looking forward to spring and all the tulips that I planted last fall.”
