Before LEED entered the lexicon as an energy standard, Bill was already working on energy-conscious projects, sometimes halfway around the world. One project, a government building in the Philippines, “was at the forefront,” he says, “reducing by half its energy budget and introducing natural concepts of daylighting, ventilation and solar shading in a tropical climate.” Along with the design work, Bill values “the advancement of mutual respect and collegiality with our international professional colleagues.” His credentials, in fact, include an honorary membership in the ALA-Assoarchitetti/Italy. Given a little free time, you might find Bill back in Italy, where "I would settle in Castellina, a small town in the Chianti region,” he explains, “and bond with the local community.” Back home in California, Bill unwinds by reading, baking and casting a fly rod.
